Competitions: Knockout

Knockouts are bracketed competitions where the winners progress and the losers are eliminated until one winner is left. Byes can be awarded when the number of entrants isn’t quite perfect, and you can automatically create a plate draw for those who lose in the first round.

Follow this guide to create the Competition before following these instructions: Competitions

Instructions

Configuration

  1. Click the orange “Edit Settings” button.

  2. Complete the wizard:

    1. Entrants enter own results: If set to “Yes”, players will be able to enter their own results, for any matches that they’re involved in. If set to “No”, only organisers with Administrator checked (as set when creating the Competition) will be able to enter results.

    2. Send Reminders: If set to “Yes”, Email reminders will be sent daily to remind both players/teams of the upcoming deadline, once there are 2 players/teams for the match (i.e. if the previous match hasn’t been played, the reminders won’t start yet).

      1. When match scheduled: If set to “No”, if a date is entered for when the match is scheduled, the reminders will not be sent.

      2. Days before deadline: Set the number of days prior to the deadline that reminder emails will start being sent.

      3. Days after deadline: Set the number of days after the deadline that reminder emails will continue to be sent.

    3. Term for Plate Draw: Set the term used for the Plate Draw made up of first round losers.

    4. Introduction: This text will appear at the top of the Results page. This could be used to include instructions, rules, or an introductory message to the entrants.

    5. OK: Once happy with the settings, click “OK” to save the configuration.

Follow this guide to add some Entries before continuing: Competitions

Assign Seeds

  1. Click the orange “Assign/Edit Seeds” button.

  2. Complete the wizard:

    1. Add Seed: Click the green “Add Seed” button to add extra Seeds.

    2. Entry: Select the player/team that you want to be a Seed.

    3. Seeding: Set which Seed position this Seed will be.

    4. Delete: Click the red dustbin to delete the Seed.

    5. OK: Once happy with the details, click “OK” to save the Seedings.

Draw

  1. Byes: Byes are used when there is an odd number of players/teams so that the draw works properly. They essentially advance the player/team to the next round automatically. You can choose to assign the Byes to either the Seeds or to randomly assign them to any player/team.

  2. Build Draw: Click the blue “Build Draw” button to place the participants randomly into the Draw with the appropriate Seeds and Byes.

  3. Set Round Deadlines: Click the orange “Set Round Deadlines” button to set when matches in each round must be played by.

You can also use the “Auto Assign” button to give suggested Round Deadlines with more time being given to earlier rounds where there are more matches to be played. Note: The “Auto Assign” option is only available if the Competition has a Start and End Date (as set when creating the Competition).

You can also set the deadlines individually by clicking “set” at the top of each round in the Draw.

  4. Publish Draw: Once you are happy with the Draw, click “Publish Draw” to make it go live. You will also be given the opportunity to email the first round participants.

  5. Delete Draw(s): Click to delete all the Draws. If the Draw has been published, be aware that any results that have been entered will also be deleted.

Plate Draw

The Plate draw is a consolation draw for those who lose in the first round. This is completely optional.

  1. Build Plate Draw: Click “Build Plate Draw” to generate the draw for those who lost in the first round. Make sure you do this before the first Result has been recorded!

  2. You can set the deadlines for the rounds in the same way as the Main Draw.

Results

  1. Click the light blue “Results” button.

  2. Locate the appropriate match.

  3. Click “Enter Score”.

  4. Complete the wizard:

    1. Date: Enter the date the match took place, or select it from the date picker.

    2. Score: Enter the score.

    3. Result: Select which player/team won.

    4. OK: Once happy with the details, click “OK” to save the Result.

  5. The winner will progress to the next round, and if there is an opponent waiting for them, it will trigger the email reminders to be sent. If it is the first round and there is a Plate draw in place, the loser will be added to this, and if their opponent is waiting for them, it will also trigger the email reminders.

  6. Repeat steps to add all Results.
